William Charlie Bonnell

William Charlie Bonnell, affectionately known as Willie, was born on September 19, 1953, in Rainier, Oregon. He passed away on February 27, 2025, in Longview, Washington. Willie was a cherished member of his community and a beloved family man, who maintained deep connections with those around him.

Willie demonstrated great dedication throughout his career as a Dredger in Marine Construction, a field in which he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 2012. He was proud to claim that everyone was family and brought warmth and joy to many with his generous spirit.

A proud graduate of Rainier Union High School, Class of 1972, Willie also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 to 1979. His commitment to his country and fellow veterans was evident as he proudly joined organizations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion.

In his personal life, Willie found happiness in marriage to Rhonda on July 4, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He leaves behind a loving family which includes his wife, Rhonda Bonnell; sons, Kevyn Bonnell and Eric Massey (Amanda); daughters, Karli Tjoelker (Thomas), Rachael Sutter, Resham Sutter, and Camolleah Robinson; and son Caleb Wendland. He is also survived by his brother Fredrick Bonnell (Jeanne), sisters Nelleen Goerendt (Gary), Bonnie Davis (Bob), Judy Riser (Randy), Bobbie Stahl (Bill), and Cindy Ward (Don). Moreover, he was a proud grandfather to Shyleigh Massey, Trask Hill, Travis Otero, Izzy Otero, Prudy Massey, Gareth Massey, Wyatt LaVelle, and Razel LaVelle, as well as a great-grandfather to Hayden Doney and Huxley Donaldson. Willie is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews.

Willie was a Big Ford Lover! Particularly his beloved Mustang, which he considered a pride and joy. One of his proudest accomplishments was having met the legendary John Wayne during his military service, a memory he cherished deeply.

Willie is preceded in death by his father, Fredrick Bonnell; mother, Cleo (Warner) Bonnell; daughter, Samantha Bonnell; brother, Carol Bonnell; sisters, Anna Sullivan, Donald Bonnell, Shireen Southerland, Lovesta Glenn, and Diane Jenson. They will forever be remembered alongside him in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The service to honor Willie will be held at Groulx Family Mortuary in Rainier, Oregon. A viewing will take place on March 7, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on March 8, 2025, 2:00 PM  He will be laid to rest at Hudson Cemetery on the same day, March 8, 2025, with a graveside service commencing at 3:00 PM.

William Charlie Bonnell will be remembered not only for his contributions to his work and community but, most importantly, for the love and light he brought into the lives of his family and friends. He leaves behind a rich legacy filled with cherished memories and undying affection.
