Carol (Slape) Maddox 1943-2024 & Ken Maddox 1940-2018
Evelyn Carol (Slape) Maddox, 81, passed peacefully on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at home in Fallon, Nev., with family by her side. Her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Ferrel Maddox, died Dec. 10, 2018, in Canyonville, Ore., at the age of 78.
Ken was born May 14, 1940, in Dearborn, Mich., and graduated from Fordson High School, Dearborn, in 1958. He served in the Navy twice, with his second enlistment being 1981-1994. He was a loving man who was always helping others and asked for nothing in return.
Carol was born Jan. 18, 1943, in Battle Creek, Mich., the eldest of seven children born to Doyle and Betty (Lempke) Slape. She graduated in 1961 from Woodland High School. Carol loved collecting beautiful things, and she and Ken enjoyed traveling together. They were married Feb. 5, 1978, in Toledo, Wash., and lived in various cities during their marriage.
Carol is survived by her children, Clayton (Brenda), Teresa, and Debra (Elijah); grandchildren Amy Plankenhorn, Tommy Maddox, Cyndal Layton, Michael Layton, Katreena Kelley-Dowell and Lawrence Dowell; a great-granddaughter, Riley Maddox; sisters Arlene Daniels and Eleanor (Dave) Hanson; brothers Earl, Ray (Terri), Max (Leslie) and John (Tami); and a large extended family.
Ken was preceded in death by a son, Blake. He is survived by a son, Curtiss, a granddaughter, Sarah Maddox; and siblings Elvera Brown, Ruth Maxwell and Katherine Haddad.
A joint service for the couple will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Groulx Family Mortuary in Rainier. Viewing is from 9 to 11 a.m., and a graveside service will follow at Hudson Park Cemetery. Ken’s ashes will be buried with Carol.
Afterward a potluck gathering will be held at the Slape Family Lodge, 72314 Hutchinson Road, Rainier.
